Eldar Ryazanov's painting "The Irony of Fate, or With a light Steam!" has undergone a complete digital restoration, the film will be shown in an updated form on Channel One on December 31 and January 1. This is reported on the official website of the broadcaster.

Frame-by-frame restoration of the film began back in 2014-2015 with the participation of Ryazanov.

"Specialists of the Close-up cinema video association have carried out work on scanning the original negative in high-resolution 2K, manual restoration of the image using advanced software and restoration of the audio track. The color correction, which was highly appreciated by Eldar Ryazanov himself, was performed by Alexey Lebeshev," the TASS channel quotes the message.

Lebeshev emphasized that he was trying to restore the original look to the film, and Ryazanov, who saw the first restored frames, was completely satisfied with the result.

"The restoration has significantly enriched the color palette of the film, adding even more New Year's mood and brightness to it: the colors of the Christmas tree bazaar, along which Hippolytus walks, began to play, Nadia's dress acquired a rich terracotta shade. I pulled out everything that was clamped and killed, but it was all on film," Lebeshev said.

The film "The Irony of fate, or With a light steam!" was filmed in 1975, it was first shown on January 1, 1976.
