The Central Bank of Russia kept the key rate at 21% per annum. Many market experts called this decision unexpected. The official statement is published on the website of the Bank of Russia.
EADaily reminds that the first increase in the key rate in 2024 occurred in July — immediately by 2 percentage points to 18% per annum. Then in September to 19%, and in October to 21%.
"On December 20, 2024, the Board of Directors of the Bank of Russia decided to keep the key rate at 21.00% per annum," the Bank of Russia said in a statement.
Earlier, President Vladimir Putin confirmed that Elvira Nabiullina, who heads the Central Bank, does not warn him about future decisions of the regulator's Board.
