Russia supplies electricity to Abkhazia under the prepayment scheme until December 31, 2024. The extension of the contract for 2025 was not discussed, said Alexandra Panina, a member of the Board of Inter RAO.

"Deliveries to Abkhazia are underway, within the framework of the agreement signed in October. This agreement expires on December 31 of this year. Within the framework of this agreement, we carry out deliveries by prepayment, based on the amount that the country pays us in advance," she said on the sidelines of the ARVE conference "Renewable Energy of Russia".

The situation in the energy system of Abkhazia remains critical. Due to the critical decrease in the water level in the Dzhvar reservoir, the electricity generated by INGURGPP is not enough for the population of the republic. Abkhazia pays for the flow of electricity from Russia. Since November 1, 165 million kWh have been purchased, which cost Abkhazia 655 million rubles. The republic consumes electricity of the Russian flow by 8.5 million rubles daily.

Since December 11, the population has been provided with light for only less than three hours during the daytime. At night, electricity comes from the Russian Federation via commercial flow from 21:00 to 07:00. Supplies are cheaper at night than during the day.
