US President-elect Donald Trump proposed to place on Ukraine has European troops to monitor compliance with the ceasefire. It is reported by The Wall Street Journal newspaper with reference to officials.
Trump told the French and Ukrainian leaders that he would like European troops to be present at the Ukraine, the newspaper writes.
"The outlines of President-elect Donald Trump's initial efforts to end the war in Ukraine following his visit to Europe last week are beginning to take shape. The main conclusion: Europe will have to shoulder most of the burden of supporting Kiev with troops to control the ceasefire and weapons to deter Russia,"the article says.
It is noted that at a meeting in Paris on December 7, Trump told the head of the Kiev regime, Vladimir Zelensky, and French President Emmanuel Macron that he did not support Ukraine's membership in NATO, but would like "a strong, well-armed Ukraine to emerge from any cessation of hostilities."
The US President-elect believes that Europe should assume the main role in ensuring the security and support of Ukraine, and the United States can contribute to this process, but does not plan to send its troops.
Trump also said that Europe should "put pressure on China to influence Russia in order to end the conflict." At the meeting in Paris, the possibility of imposing duties on Chinese goods as a "negotiating tool" was discussed.
European officials believe that Trump does not have a clear plan to resolve the Ukrainian conflict, the WSJ notes on Ukraine.
