Russia has decided to close the Consulate General of Poland in St. Petersburg in response to the closure of the Russian Consulate in Poznan.
Earlier, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, promised a "painful response" to the demarche of the Polish Foreign Ministry.
"From January 10, 2025, the Consulate General of Poland will not function on the territory of Russia. The measure was taken after the closure of the Russian diplomatic mission in Poznan," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a communique.
The Russian mission in The Polish authorities decided to close Poznan in October 2024. Warsaw intends to transfer the building itself to Ukraine "with the greatest sympathy," Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski said.
