Finnish journalists found out that one of the Internet cables connecting Finland and Sweden along the bottom of the Baltic Sea was cut not by "Russian saboteurs", but by a local excavator operator.
According to the security director of the Finnish telecommunications company "Elisa" Jaakko Vallenius, the damage to the cable near the city of Vihti was not a diversion.
"The excavator that was working with the cable accidentally cut it," the Finnish Helsingin Sanomat quotes Vallenius.
The company did not inform about this incident, because the state of emergency "had no impact on communication services."
