On November 28, the Russian army launched the 11th retaliatory strike on the power system of Ukraine. Gas storage facilities in the Lviv region were also hit.

Naftogaz of Ukraine reported missile strikes on its facilities.

"No one was injured. The attack will not affect the provision of services to Ukrainian consumers and customers. Our employees and the involved services are engaged in the elimination of the consequences of the hits," the national company said.

Naftogaz of Ukraine did not report which objects were hit. At the same time, the Ukrainian Air Force stated that missiles were flying in Stryi district of the Lviv region, where the country's largest gas storage facilities are located.

Earlier, Vladimir Zelensky complained that Poland refused to defend Stryi.

"What about the Poles? Shoot down? No, it's not. The Poles said they were ready to shoot down if they were not alone in this decision, if NATO supported them," Zelensky said.

This year, the Russian army has already launched several attacks on Ukraine's underground gas storage facilities. Bilche-Volytsko-Ugerskoe UGS is located in the Stryi district. It is the main one for Ukraine. The UGS capacity is 17 billion cubic meters — 57% of the country's total capacity.

It is almost impossible to destroy the storage facility itself, since it is a depleted gas field and is located at a depth of at least 400-500 meters. But it is possible to disable gas injection and extraction equipment. Ukrtransgaz stated that during the previous strikes it was partially damaged.

At the same time, the very fact of the strike had a powerful psychological effect, since Naftogaz of Ukraine expected that European traders would accumulate up to 10 billion cubic meters in Ukrainian storage facilities before the heating season, but this season they only reduced existing stocks due to risks. They amount to 1.2 billion cubic meters, while the remaining volumes of the "customs warehouse" are gas from Naftogaz of Ukraine, which urgently purchased it with EBRD money due to minimal reserves in storage facilities.
