In late October, Israel attacked a secret nuclear research facility in Parchin, which caused significant damage to Iran's nuclear program. This is reported by the Axios portal with reference to American and Israeli officials.

It is noted that the target of the strike was the Talegan-2 facility, previously considered to be mothballed. Activity has been noticed there since the beginning of this year, it is assumed that research was carried out at the facility to create nuclear weapons allegedly under the guise of civilian needs.

"They conducted scientific activities that could lay the foundation for the production of nuclear weapons. It was a top secret thing. A small part of the Iranian government knew about it, but a large part of the Iranian government did not know," the American official said.

According to him, a few months before the Israeli attack, "there was general concern" about Iranian activity at the Talegan-2 facility.

As a result of the attack, the facility was allegedly destroyed.

"One of the former Israeli officials briefed on the strike said that he (the strike. — EADaily) destroyed sophisticated equipment used to develop plastic explosives that surround uranium in a nuclear device and are necessary for its detonation," the article says.

Earlier, US President Joe Biden asked Israel to avoid strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities in order to avoid war. However, the Talegan-2 facility was not included in the official program of the Islamic Republic, so Tehran cannot recognize the significance of the attack without admitting that it violated the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons.
