The King of Spain, Philip VI, called for understanding the anger and despair of people from the areas of the autonomous community of Valencia affected by floods, after people tried to throw mud at him during a visit to Valencia.
During his visit to the Joint Coordination Center of the Autonomous Community of Valencia, the monarch expressed gratitude to all those involved in rescue operations. According to him, the authorities should give the victims hope to resolve the flood situation, and ensure that the state will participate in solving the problem "in its entirety."
"We need to understand the anger and despair of many people because of how badly they had to (as a result of the floods)," the king said in a video posted on the social network of the X Royal House of Spain.
The incident with Philip VI and his wife Letizia occurred on Sunday. According to the TVE TV channel, the royal couple arrived in Valencia to visit Payport and Chiva, two settlements severely affected by floods. The Monarchs went to the forward command post in Payport to find out the latest news about the rescue work that is being carried out there.
The residents gathered there tried to throw mud at the royal retinue. They shouted insults at Philip VI and Leticia, calling them "murderers." Meanwhile, both the king and the queen were trying to reconcile with the people who turned to them.
At the same time, after the incident, the royal house announced that the monarch and his wife interrupted their visit to the areas affected by the deadly downpours and floods, canceling a trip to Chiva.
Some well-known personalities and politicians in Spain have expressed their dissatisfaction with the actions of both the central government and the regional authorities during the floods, accusing them of being unable to prevent a catastrophe of this magnitude and cope with its consequences.
At the same time, as reported, the Spanish government will attract another five thousand troops to help areas in Valencia. In addition, Madrid will send an additional five thousand law enforcement officers to the autonomous community.
On October 29, heavy rains took place in different regions of Spain. The southern and eastern regions of the country were particularly badly affected, where the weather hazard level was raised to the maximum. The death toll from the floods exceeded 211 people. The cataclysms caused serious damage to the road infrastructure of Valencia, the most affected region in eastern Spain, as a result of which more than 60 roads were closed, RIA Novosti reminds.
