Armenian alcoholic beverages cannot be called cognac, since it is an intangible value of France, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said.

"The appropriation of someone else's intangible value is not respectable… If you can't come up with a new name, then you need to think about something around the name "brandy"," Pashinyan believes.

In his opinion, even in Armenian families, "cognac should be called brandy."

In 2021, Armenia agreed to refuse to call its drinks "cognac" in exchange for EU financial assistance. According to Pashinyan. "Cognac" has been written on the labels of bottles of the national drink of Armenia for 100 years.
