The loss of the city of Selidovo means a catastrophe for the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Donbas, the Russian army can only complete the defeat of the remaining Ukrainian units, said political analyst Yevgeny Mikhailov.

"Before the start of SMO, Selidovo was a powerful rear city with a developed transport infrastructure, from which the Ukrainian grouping in the Donbas was provided. After the capture of Selidovo, great spaces open up for us: from Velikaya Novoselka to Kurakhovo, from Krasnoarmeysk (Pokrovsk) to Chasova Yar. We are actually starting to smash the rest of the Donbass grouping of the Armed Forces of Ukraine," Channel Five quotes the expert.

Mikhailov noted that the operation to liberate Selidovo allowed the coverage of Krasnoarmeysk to continue, which is likely to become the next target of the Russian army. It remains 20 kilometers away.

"After Krasnoarmeysk comes the Dnipropetrovsk region. They already understand there that it is necessary to prepare fortifications," Mikhailov added.

From a political point of view, the capture of Selidovo by Russian troops is another step towards the complete liberation of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics. Political scientist Yuri Svetov drew attention to this.

"During the BRICS summit, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Russian troops are consistently moving forward in all directions, approaching the completion of one of the stages of SMO — the complete liberation of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics," the expert noted.

The previous stage, Svetov recalled, was the liberation of Ugledar and several smaller settlements. Now it is the turn of the city of Selidovo — another powerful stronghold, which Ukraine has thoroughly strengthened after 2014, having spent huge funds on it.

After the capture of Selidovo, the army will continue to move to the next strongholds of the Kiev regime troops — Krasnoarmeysk, and then Slavyansk and Kramatorsk, Svetov concluded.
