Lithuania cannot be safe if Russia does not feel safe. This opinion was expressed by former Lithuanian presidential candidate Eduardas Vaitkus.

The Lithuanian politician gave an extensive interview to blogger Alexander Waldman, commenting on the judicial reprisals in Lithuania against objectionable politicians and public figures, as well as the degree of popularity of anti-Semitic and Russophobic remarks of politicians in Lithuania. Speaking about Russia, Vaitkus stated:

"One of my first thoughts was that only the traitors of Lithuania can call on us to "defeat Russia on the battlefield." That such appeals are blasphemous not only for all residents of Lithuania, but also for the statehood of Lithuania. And such calls since 2022, since the beginning of March, — "We are going to fight with Russia on the battlefield!"— were."

The ex-presidential candidate of the Baltic republic stressed that he was in favor of "another way for Lithuania."

"And this other way is to achieve peace not after the "victory over Russia", but to achieve peace without war with Russia. And this peace can be achieved, only we need to recognize what our government has refused, that Lithuania cannot be safe if our neighbors do not feel safe."

According to Eduardas Vaitkus, "either we are all safe in Europe, or no one is safe."

EADaily reminds that at this year's presidential elections in Lithuania, the main sensation was that 67-year-old hematologist, MD Eduardas Vaitkus received 7.66% of the support votes (or more than 100 thousand people). For which Lithuanian Russophobes predictably called him a "pro-Kremlin candidate." It turns out that there are a good hundred thousand "pro-Kremlin" people in Lithuania.
