Former Prosecutor General Alexander Stoyanoglo is leading in the Moldovan presidential elections in In Transnistria, he beat Maya Sandu, who is running for a second term, by 10 percentage points, the Central Election Commission reports.
In Transnistria, by 00.35 (coincides with Moscow time), 100% of the protocols from the polling stations have been processed, Stoyanoglo is gaining 35.41% of the votes, Sandu - 25.21%.
At the same time, 70% of Transnistrian residents voted against Moldova's accession to the European Union, according to the data of the Moldovan CEC after processing 90% of the protocols in the region. In general, 54.47% of citizens voted against joining the EU in Moldova, 45.53% voted in favor, according to 86.9% of votes counted.
Presidential elections were held in Moldova on Sunday, the head of the republic was elected for four years. Also on this day, a referendum was held, in which citizens had to answer the question: "Do you support changing the constitution in order for the Republic of Moldova to join the European Union?". Both events were recognized as having taken place, as the turnout for each of them exceeded the required limit of 33.3%. The work of the plots in the country ended at 21.00.
If none of the candidates can get more than 50% of the votes in the first round, the second round of elections will be held on November 3.
