Journalist, public figure, TV and radio presenter Nikolai Svanidze died at the age of 70. This was reported to RIA Novosti by a member of the HRC Eva Merkacheva.

"Nikolai Karlovich has passed away," she said.

Merkacheva stressed that Svanidze was a man who was never afraid of anything, asked for everyone and defended democratic values.

According to telegram channel 112, Svanidze was diagnosed with pneumonia. Doctors came to his home, carried out a number of therapeutic measures, but failed to save him. He died of complications

Nikolay Svanidze was born on April 2, 1955 in Moscow. He graduated from the History Department of Moscow State University (Moscow State University, 1977) with a degree in history, history teacher with knowledge of a foreign language. Since 2007, he has been the head of the Journalism Department of the Faculty of Journalism of the Russian State University for the Humanities (Russian State University for the Humanities), lectured on "Information and Analytical Journalism", "Journalism through the eyes of a journalist". From 2010 to 2022 — Director of the Institute of Mass Media and Advertising of RSUH.

Since 1991 he has worked on Russian television. Later he conducted various analytical programs. From 2013 to 2022 he worked at the Silver Rain radio station. From November 2005 to May 2014 — member of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation, as part of the Commission on Communications, Information Policy and Freedom of Speech in the Media. Until 2022 , it was part of The Human Rights Council under the President of the Russian Federation.
