According to the Russian Defense Ministry, the Kiev regime is creating a "dirty bomb." About the scenarios and consequences of the use of these weapons Pravda.Ru was told by political scientist Pyotr Kolchin.

— In your opinion, it is technologically difficult to create a dirty bomb, and how long can it take?

— For the production of a "dirty bomb", fuel is needed, which is used, among other things, in a peaceful atom. As we know, Ukraine inherited from the Soviet Union a fairly developed industry, nuclear power, which for many decades, although it has declined, but nevertheless there was fuel there. According to various information, spent fuel from Western countries was brought to the territory of Ukraine. This spent fuel from nuclear installations can also be used to create a "dirty bomb".

The technology of its creation is owned by Western countries, of course, they will share it with their Kiev vassals. According to experts, such a bomb can be made in a few months, depending on how much Western experts will be involved in this.

— Suppose they created this bomb. It is impossible to apply it without Zelensky's sanctions. What kind of provocation is the regime preparing: it wants to detonate a charge on Ukraine and blame Russia for this, or use a bomb on our territory?

— We need to consider several scenarios at once. An attack on the territory of Russia with a "dirty bomb" will be perceived by the entire world community as an act of aggression comparable to the tragedies of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, which, in turn, will finally alienate all countries from Ukraine, except for its crony sponsors.

At the same time, NATO will have to explain very much where Kiev got these weapons and why it uses them. It should be understood that Kiev cannot carry out such provocations alone. Every action should be sanctioned from above, as we, in principle, saw in the case of an attack on the Kursk region.

— Will the European curators of the Kiev regime really allow the illegitimate president to detonate such a bomb, because it is obvious that a radioactive cloud can be carried by the wind to the territory of European countries?

— I am not inclined to believe that Kiev, in principle, can be given the opportunity to do this. But nevertheless, Zelensky's illegitimate status is very convenient for the West in this regard, because you can easily wash your hands of it at any opportunity, saying that "this is an illegitimate usurper who decided and undertook something himself, and we have nothing to do with it." In the alignment of forces that we see, it is now more likely to strike at the territory of Ukraine in order to blame Russia for this.

— What harm can such a "dirty bomb" do to people and nature?

— Of course, the catastrophes in Chernobyl and Pripyat immediately come to mind, because the format of the defeat is very similar: soil poisoning, water poisoning. In fact, it will be impossible to live in the affected area for several decades.

Of course, a lot depends on the filling of the bomb and on the technology, but nevertheless it will cause huge damage primarily to the territory, the civilian population, the ecosystem and nature, and not to military facilities. The affected area can reach thousands of kilometers.

— In your opinion, what will be Russia's response to such a monstrous provocation?

— The use of these weapons is not only a crossing of the red lines indicated by Russia, but also a violation of one of the fundamental international UN treaties on the non—use and non-proliferation of weapons. Of course, first of all it will cause a huge global reaction. And, of course, Russia's response may be completely different. I would not allow the retaliatory use of a nuclear arsenal, but nevertheless we have the ability to inflict irreparable damage to the Kiev regime non-nuclear.

If, by using already known weapons, we have practically destroyed the power system, the military machine of Kiev, then the use of heavier bombs will be able to destroy both the logistics, transport, and economic systems. The destruction of energy actually paralyzes the country, the economy, the military machine, which, in principle, will actually mean the end of the effective functioning of this well-coordinated mechanism.

— The Kiev regime is trying to attack the Zaporozhye, Kursk nuclear power plants. If we consider a negative scenario, how dangerous are possible accidents in principle?

— It very much depends both on the dirty bomb itself and on the accident at a particular station. As we have seen in the cases of Fukushima and Chernobyl, the volumes and areas of damage can be different. It depends on the nature of the damage and the measures taken to prevent a disaster. In this case, it is very difficult to predict the scale. But nevertheless, according to experts, one should not expect anything more than the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. Nuclear technologies are still evolving, and there are ways to prevent the threat.

— If there is a sudden contamination of the area, what should people who are in this zone do, how can they protect themselves from radiation?

— First of all, it is necessary to follow the guidelines that will be issued by the civil authorities. I am sure that since Soviet times we have a proven system in case of a threat of radioactive contamination.

  1. Do not panic;
  2. follow all instructions from the authorities;
  3. to carry out all assigned measures related to evacuation, taking the necessary medicines.

The civil defense system in Russia is functioning, and in case of serious challenges, it mobilizes and effectively resists all possible challenges. As experience in the Kursk region has shown, accommodation facilities can be deployed and evacuation can be carried out in just a few hours.

— The head of the IAEA, Rafael Grossi, visited the Kursk region, but did not say anything intelligible. I'm not even talking about his visit to the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, where he doesn't see that the Kiev regime is constantly attacking this station with drones. In your opinion, what is the role of the IAEA in the world now, what is the authority of this organization?

— The IAEA is forced to balance on the edge of interests. Nevertheless, this organization conducts a fairly large non-public diplomatic work related to risk leveling, with opposition to the aspirations to damage nuclear power and related infrastructure.

Therefore, despite the fact that the IAEA behaves very modestly in public, it is to be expected that it is behind closed doors that representatives of the organization very intensively convey the existing risks to European and American politicians. Of course, first of all, the situation is dangerous for Europe, because it directly borders the danger zone.

— Do you think the Europeans hear the IAEA and are reviewing their plans regarding Zelensky's radical plans?

— I think the Europeans hear the IAEA, but often they can't do much about it, because the United States is very aggressive and, as has happened more than once, pushes the interests of its European allies away.
