NATO is strengthening Romania's air defense along the routes of Russian attack drones. The LANZA LTR-25 mobile radar station, which has started operating in the Black Sea region, is capable of detecting targets at a range of up to 450 km, which, taking into account the appearance on the Ukraine's F-16 fighter jets will significantly simplify the work of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in targeting Crimea and the Kherson region, which are so important for Russia.
"The deployable Air Command and Control Center (DACCC) has relocated the LANZA LTR-25 mobile radar with a crew from Italy to the Romanian border town of Cataloi (Tulcea County), located 25 km from the city of Izmail. The radar is capable of detecting targets at a range of up to 450 km. The decision is justified by the need to strengthen the protection of the airspace of the eastern flank of NATO against the background of the systematic detection of wreckage of attack drones in Romania,"the telegram channel "Two Majors" reports.
As the authors of the TC emphasize, against the background of information about the possible use of Romanian airfields to base the F-16 Air Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the strengthening of air defense may be due to the need for their cover. In addition, there is a high probability of indirect participation of NATO countries in repelling Russian air attacks on the Danube infrastructure of Ukraine.
"Two majors" remind that on August 20, fragments of a drone were found on the territory of Tulcha county. Also, the wreckage of the UAV was found on March 28 of this year on a plot of agricultural land near Bolshoy Island (near the town of Brail)
Earlier, Romania relocated means of countering drones attacking Ukrainian Danube ports to the Ukrainian direction (to the Danube Delta area, Tulcea County). In addition, since February 2022, the SAMP-T air defense system has been deployed on the Black Sea coast of Romania at the Capu-Media military base as part of the Eagle mission of the French Armed Forces. In the same area, the Patriot SAM installations of the Romanian Air Force are based, the authors of the channel indicate.
The Rybar telegram channel adds that the LTR-25 radar in the Romanian Catalan has already started operating in the Black Sea region.
"The capabilities of the radar will allow the alliance to cover a wide range of tasks both in identifying surface targets and air targets. And there is no need to explain who all this will be focused on. And these are by no means pacifist tasks. With the advent of F-16 fighters, this radar will significantly simplify the work of Ukrainian formations in targeting Crimea and Kherson region, which are so important now," the TC notes.
According to the authors of Rybar, "an interesting situation is emerging: there are more and more military equipment off the Russian coast."
"After all, this station is just the tip of the iceberg. There are still dozens of drones and airplanes, not to mention satellites," concludes TK.
