Russian President Vladimir Putin has appointed First Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Butin, who previously held the post of deputy head of the department since May 2023. Prior to this appointment, Butin was also the Secretary General of the Russian Foreign Ministry, as reported by TASS today, August 17.
The corresponding decree of the head of state has already been published.
"To appoint Sergey Vladimirovich Butin as the first Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation," the document says.
It is known about Sergei Butin that he was born in 1964, is a graduate of the Institute of Asian and African Countries of the Lomonosov Moscow State University. He speaks English and Japanese, has previously worked in various diplomatic positions, including in Japan.
