Today, August 15, by order of the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation Andrei Belousov in Russia has created a Coordinating Council to increase the effectiveness of troops to cover the state border in the Belgorod, Bryansk and Kursk regions.

"By my order, the Coordination Council for Military Security of the border areas — Belgorod, Bryansk and Kursk regions - was established in the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation. Its goal is to increase the effectiveness of comprehensive support for groups of troops solving the tasks of covering the state border, protecting the territory and the population of the regions," the minister said.

He outlined the key tasks of the Coordinating Council:

  • effective provision of the grouping of troops and forces with demanded weapons, military and special equipment, means of destruction and material and technical means of support;
  • provision of engineering arrangement of the territories of the regions;
  • military medical support;
  • assistance to civil authorities in evacuating the population, establishing timely information and ensuring protection within the framework of these processes;
  • Taking additional measures to ensure the protection of the civilian population and infrastructure from attacks by unmanned aerial vehicles and enemy shelling.

The Council will also regulate effective interdepartmental interaction and troop buildup in the event of a threat of a breakthrough of the state border. The new body includes specialized deputy Ministers of Defense, heads of military administration bodies, representatives of the General Staff, heads of the Belgorod, Bryansk and Kursk regions. The Coordinating Council will meet at least once a week.

"We will strive to resolve issues quickly and without delay. I hope that information from the field will be reported promptly and truthfully within the Council," Belousov stressed.

He stressed that the council does not replace the operational management of troops — this remains the task of the command of the North grouping, as well as the General Staff of the Russian Federation.
