By the end of May, the import of Turkish oranges to Russia decreased by 14 times. Experts especially point to the fact that these fruits have been the most popular type of citrus fruits for many months, which the Russian market bought from Turkey. This was announced today, July 4, RIA Novosti reports with reference to mutual trade data.

Russia bought 5.6 thousand tons of Turkish oranges, tangerines, grapefruits and lemons in May. But this is 2 times less than it was in the same month of 2023. Of these, there are only 77 tons of oranges.

The import of tangerines from Turkey decreased 6.5 times to 411 tons. Lemons — 3 times to 2.2 thousand tons. Moreover, lemons accounted for 40% of all Turkish fruit shipments to Russia in May.

Only grapefruit supplies showed positive dynamics in the reporting month. Import of this type of citrus from Turkey to Russia grew 6 times to 2.9 thousand tons.

EADaily also previously reported on the threat to orange production in the southern United States due to the "water" dispute with Mexico.
