Turkmenistan suggests discussing construction of a new multimodal highway for Central Asia with an access to Turkey, Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov has announced at an international forum dedicated to the Silk Road that is taking place today in Turkmenbashi, the president’s press office reports.

“Building a modern transport framework oriented towards solution of key tasks ща the commonwealth of nations in the 21st century to serve millions of people all over the world, to preserve and increase global resources is the Alpha and Omega ща our country’s foreign policy in the transport field,” he stressed. “The initiative of the International Road Transport Union on the multimodal highway fully coincides with our vision of the prospects of transport routes development in this direction. We do support it and are ready to play the most active role and render the most effective support in implementation of the project,” he added.

In this connection, Berdymukhamedov suggested that all countries that members to the UN Economic Commission for Europe and Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific to join detailed discussion of the issue.

On May 2, a largest international sea port was inaugurated in Turkmenbashi. At the inauguration ceremony, Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov said that the new port is to become a significant part in the global sea route transportation and will provide welcoming environment for access to the Black Sea area, Europe, Middle East and Asia.
