There are no unsettled issues left between Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has announced in Dushanbe after paying a visit to the neighboring republic.

He was supported by Tajik President Emomali Rahmon who said that the visit gave answers to all questions between the two “sister republics.” Rahmon also said that they agreed to increase the trade turnover between the countries up to $1bn in the near future.

Speaking on the issue of water and energy, the parties noted that the hydropower plants in Tajikistan (both in operation now and under construction) will serve the region. Shavkat Mirziyoyev noted that Uzbekistan was interested in developing the hydropower in Tajikistan, including the Rogun hydropower plant. Besides, the countries will establish a joint work group to examine issues of common use of the fresh water from Sarez Lake.
