Turkey announces time for end of military operation in Afrin

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu has announced time for completing the Olive Branch operation in the Syrian Afrin. “By May, the operation in Afrin will come to an end,” Çavuşoğlu is quoted as saying by Turkish media.

Earlier, Anadolu state news agency reported that the town of Jinderes in south-western Afrin, where Turkish troops and their allies from the Free Syrian Army continue the operation against local Kurdish militia.

The Anadolu Agency has released shots of Jinderes from a bird’s-eye view.

According to the Turkish Armed Forces General Staff on March 8, since the beginning of the operation 3,055 PKK, PYD, and YPG militants have been killed.

To remind, on January 20, the Turkish Armed Forces General Staff announced launch of the Olive Branch operation in the Syrian Afrin controlled by the Kurdish militia. The aim was announced as protection of Turkish borders, securing safety and stability in the region. The official Ankara says all military and political institutions of Syrian Kurds are “terrorist organizations.”
