Romanian Foreign Minister Teodor Meleşcanu believes that statements of the Moldovan unionists, made the day before in several localities of Moldova to unite with the neighboring state, have no legal consequences. "From our point of view, this is just an expression of the desire on the part of the citizens of the Republic of Moldova for rapprochement with the citizens of Romania. And they have no legal consequences," Meleşcanu said.

According to him, stability and prosperity of the Moldovan state are extremely important for Bucharest. "The European integration remains our strategic goal in relations with the Republic of Moldova. This is the only way for citizens to ensure prosperity, security, and freedom," the head of the Romanian foreign ministry concluded.

EADaily reported earlier that administrations of seven villages of Moldova had signed a declaration of union with Romania. President of the country Igor Dodon called these actions undermining the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the state. Calling the Supreme Security Council on this issue, the president said that those responsible for unconstitutional actions would be held accountable.

In parallel with this, a campaign was launched in Moldova to collect signatures in defense of the republic’s statehood. 21 settlements, including 4 towns, have already joined it. The declaration condemns the spread of unionism, as an ideology, undermining the independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of the state.
