After Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko’s spokesperson Svyatoslav Tsegolko published a letter addressed to the president by Mikheil Saakashvili, the former governor of Odessa, the latter wrote a second letter, wherein he urged Poroshenko to leave his post voluntarily.

In his first letter, Saakashvili offered Poroshenko “to find a way out of the conflict together,” but the president decided to publish the letter, which, according to the ex-governor, showed that the president “lacks honor.”

In his new letter, Saakashvili says that Poroshenko and his supporters do not want to change the situation in Ukraine to better.

“The voluntary resignation (of Poroshenko) is almost the last chance to overcome political crisis. The president who leaves voluntarily bowing his head to the people’s will may hope for mitigation of punishment and pardon,” the politician says in the letter.

Earlier EADaily reported that in his first letter, Saakashvili admitted his political mistakes and suggested talks to de-escalate the situation, as well as refuted reports on his cooperation with the Federal Security Service of Russia (FSB).

“Despite the latest developments, I have no aggressive intentions. You know me well and you understand full well that blaming me for collaboration with the FSB is not just absurd, it favors Ukraine’s enemy,” the letter reads.

To recall, protest actions by Mikheil Saakashvili’s supporters in Kiev on Sunday grew into clashes with the National Guard.
