The Republic of Suriname decided to recall the recognition of independence of Kosovo and Metohija, Serbia’s Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic has announced and thanked Suriname for the “very important decision.”
According to the minister, the Serbian Foreign Ministry received a note informing about the decision made on October 27, 2017. A note on it was sent to the foreign ministry of the unrecognized Kosovo on October 30.
Dacic stressed importance if the diplomatic activities in protecting Serbia’s territorial integrity and said that since he came to the post of foreign minister, only five countries recognized Kosovo’s independence. One of them recalled the decision.
“Up to August 2012, 85 countries recognized independence of Kosovo within four years,” he said. “It shown that not everything has been settled, as some people say,” he added.
Suriname is a state in Latin America. It has a population of 530,000 people. The country gained independence in November 1975, before that it was part of the Dutch Guiana. It has the smallest territory in South America and it is very diverse from ethnic and religious point of view.
