Functioning in the Normandy format is a fundamental basis for implementation of the Minsk agreements, but the situation with the implementation is poor, Russian president’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov has announced on the eve of next meeting of the Normandy Four foreign ministers scheduled for May 11.

“The Normandy Process is yet the key basis for searching for crisis settlement in Ukraine, so, of course, functioning of the group is especially important,” Peskov says.

“Moreover, the situation is far from being promising and fruitful. For the time being, we have registered poor condition of the implementation of the Minsk agreements signed by the Normandy Four,” the Kremlin spokesman states.

As State Secretary, Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Grigory Karasin said earlier, Russia prepared a number of proposals to the upcoming May 11 meeting in Berlin. Russia hopes that the talks will speed up implementation of the obligations of the parties – Kiev, Donetsk, and Lugansk – under the Minsk agreements.

The previous meeting of the Normandy Four foreign ministers took place in Paris on March 3.
