Armenia’s Economy Minister Artsvik Minasyan told journalists on April 21 he sees no reasons for the country exiting the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU). This is how the minister commented on the draft statement on Armenia’s exit from the EEU that was submitted to the parliament by one of the oppositionist lawmakers.

Minasyan said Armenia has not even started using the opportunities opening with the EEU membership. “We’d better think about the mechanisms that should be introduced to use these opportunities at full,” he said.

The minister believes that both real factors and expectations have their impact on the economy. “The approach of every citizen, whether it is a politician or an ordinary citizen, has an impact on the economy. One should not use everything to get power sacrificing even the opportunity of positive development,” the minister said.

Earlier on April 7, during his meeting with Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan expressed regret that some EEU partners refused to arrive in Yerevan to participate in the planned EEU summit. “I do not know if they have helped Azerbaijan by their refusal to arrive, but they have, undoubtedly, undermined the authority of our organization,” he said.
