A truce in Karabakh?

The parties in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict have decided to suspend military actions, David Babayan, spokesman for the president of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic told EADaily. According to him, the decision was driven by two basic factors: the planned talks in Vena with participation of the OSCE Minsk Group and “failure of plans of the Azerbaijani military aimed at imposing new reality in the conflict zone upon the Karabakh side.”

At the same time, Babayan noted that due to understandable reasons the stability of the truce is under question.

“I need to stress that that the truce was announced in a situation similar to the one that was before Azerbaijan started its military aggression on the night of April 2,” he said adding that the Karabakh army has completely restored its positions.

According to Babayan, representatives of the Azerbaijani defense ministry confirmed readiness for a truce.

To remind, the OSCE Minsk Group is expected to have an “extraordinary” meeting in Vienna on April 5, four days after the escalation of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
