The leader of Our Party Renato Usatii is sure that the Moldovan parliament will elect Chairman of the Constitutional Court Alexandru Tanase as President of Moldova.
“I have information from reliable sources,” Usatii told N4 TV channel.
“The government will resign in early August, when most of our people will be on holidays. The Pavel Filip Cabinet will be dismissed and the new president will name Vladimir Plahotniuc as new prime minister,” Usatii said.
On the day of the presidential election, the opposition is going to organize an action of protest.
“It will be a peaceful action but we will try to prevent the election. We don’t want any violence but when a government ignores its people, the people have the right to revolt,” Usatii said.
Moldova’s leftist opposition (Party of Socialists, Our Party and Demnitate si Adevar) have been protesting for almost half a year already. They want the government to resign, the parliament to be dissolved, the constitution to be amended and the president to be elected by people rather than the parliament.
As EADaily reported earlier, Bridget Brink, US Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs, is to arrive in Moldova this week so as to discuss with the local authorities the procedure for electing the new president and the list of the candidates. The last time Brink visited Moldova in January when the Moldovans were forming a new Cabinet.
