The Crimean authorities are developing measures to save power in condition of the emergency situation that was announced on the peninsula after Ukraine cut power supply to it.

On November 25, 13 major industrial enterprises were stopped in Simferopol, according to the city administration website. Nearly all these enterprises are of strategic importance and are big taxpayers to the Crimean budget. Trolleybuses suspended operation too. Crimean Trolleybus Company that consumed 18MW out of 82MW power supplied to Simferopol has been closed down temporarily.

Vladimir Puchkov, Minister of Emergency Situation, explained yesterday that a number of organizations in Crimea have stopped consumption of the electric power to save it. However, the social facilities will be supplied with power without interruptions.

New schedule of power cuts will come into effect at about 8:00am on November 25, after the head of Crimea Sergey Aksyonov harshly criticized the previous schedule and dismissed Minister of Fuel and Energy Sergey Yegorov. The new schedules must be fair and accurate, he said.

In addition, the Crimea authorities announced extra school holidays until November 30. The holidays apply to kindergartens too. Aksyonov asked the heads of the local enterprises to provide more paid leaves to their female employees having children in connection with the emergency situation.

As EADaily reported earlier, the emergency regime in Crimea was announced on Nov 22 after two high voltage lines were damaged in Ukraine’s Kherson region on Nov 20. The lines supplied electric power to Crimea. The damage was caused by an explosion. One of the power lines (220kV) is being repaired now. According to Zinoviy Butsio, Ukrenergo state company, the repairs may be completed by the end of the day on November 25.

Earlier, the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry plane supplied 300 power generators with a capacity of 6kW to the peninsula to ensure the life-sustaining activity there.
