The authorities of the Lugansk People’s Republic (LPR) have no objections to the participation of Ukrainian politicians in the elections to be held in Donbass as required by “A Set of Measures for the Implementation of the Minsk Agreements,”   Lugansk Information Center reports Head of LPR Igor Plotnitsky as saying.

Commenting on the latest statements by Sergey Levochkin, a representative of the Opposition Bloc, who said his party is ready to participate in the upcoming elections in Donbass, Plotnitsky said on March 31: “Well and good. I am all for it.”

He offered the oppositionist to arrive in Donbass and tell the people “where they were, in what trenches they sat, how many wounded people they recovered, and how much blood they donated. And then, if people elect them, then so be it,” the head of the LPR said.

Earlier, on March 30, Levochkin said “the opposition insists on the implementation of the Minsk agreements and is ready to take part in the elections to be held in Donbass.” He said there can be only one mechanism of elections. “It is the Ukrainian law and the Central Election Commission that will organize these elections and register their results. The elections must be free and democratic. All parties to the conflict must guarantee freedom and democratic expression of will for the people of Ukraine, including for our citizens who live in Donetsk and Lugansk," the parliamentarian said.

Earlier, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said the elections to the local self-government in Donbass may be held already in the current years.  However, the incumbent authorities of Kiev have no intention to discuss organization of the local elections in Donbass with the leaderships of the LPR and DPR whom they had declared as “terrorist organizations.”
