As Ukraine President Petro Poroshenko’s rating is falling, his party that ran for parliament as Petro Poroshenko Bloc seeks to get rid of the president’s name in the party title and restore to the old name “Solidarity.” Yuri Lutsenko, the head of Petro Poroshenko Bloc announced the party’s plans on March 10.
Lutsenko briefed on the idea in a Twitter post. He said the party needs a strong ideology and team. “We should refuse from parties with one leader,” he wrote on Twitter.
To recall, Solidarity Party was set up in 2011 and renamed into Petro Poroshenko Bloc (PPB) on August 27, 2014 at the behest of Lutsenko. PPB was elected to the Supreme Rada with 21.82% of votes yielding the first place to the People’s Front of Arseniy Yatsenyuk (22.14%).
BBP’s re-branding is timed to the local self-government elections in Ukraine.
