More than 25% of Russian citizens polled by the WCIOM (Russian Public Opinion Research Center) find the likelihood of a military confrontation with Ukraine very high. Other 10% believe the war is already taking place.

A statement on results of the poll conducted in January says that three months ago only 17% said the war was possible. “The hopes for Minsk agreements have faded. Attempts to freeze the conflict failed. The likelihood of a war increased,” elaborates WCIOM director Valery Fyodorov. As he said, only 3% cite the West’s interference as the reason for the current developments, but people were not asked for the reasons. Otherwise, responds would be different, Fyodorov believes.
