Kyrgyz Muslims call the population not to buy French goods as a sign of protest against the French Charlie Hebdo satirical magazine that published cartoons mocking Prophet Mohammed.

The cartoons sparked rallies under the slogan “I love my prophet” in the Nookat District, Osh Province of Kyrgyzstan. The activists have been actively campaigning among the local population to boycott French products. The activists organized a campaign in the central market of the district against the French perfume.

The central market is a traditional and very popular trading area in the south of Kyrgyzstan.  It is noteworthy that French perfume is, actually, the only French product sold locally.

As EAD reported earlier, on January 7, three armed Islamists attacked the editorial office of the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo in Paris. They drove by the office and shelled the office staff from automatic guns. Twelve people were killed and 11 were wounded in the assault. Two of the Islamists were killed during the special operation. The Islamic organizations Al-Qaeda and Islamic State claimed responsibility for the terror assault, saying they did it in retaliation for the controversial cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed.
