The attack against the head of the Rossotrudnichestvo (Russian agency for compatriots) office in Kiev is another attempt to destroy the common cultural space of Russia and Ukraine, Russian Foreign Ministry’s spokesperson Maria Zakharova has said.
“This all is taking the same path. Someone is constantly trying to push us together, to incite against each other, using culture for it as well. To squeeze Russia from Ukraine for all one needs to close down all Russian language centers, all Rossotrudnichestvo centers, to prohibit teaching Russian history and everything that deal with our country, to eliminate the common cultural space. Is this a need of the Ukrainian people? Of course, not. It is the ideology of the current Kiev government,” Zakharova told reporters in New York.
On May 9, the head of the Russian Science and Culture Center in Kiev Konstantin Vorobyev was attacked by radicals from C14 group near his home in central Kiev. The Russian embassy in Ukraine called for investigation and punish those guilty.
