Belgrade is hurrying up to settle the Kosovo issue, because positions of Kosovo “president” Hashim Thaci has a very weak hand, and he is afraid of the Special Court for Military Crimes of the Kosovo Liberation Army, the leader of the Vetëvendosje Kosovo separatist movement Albin Kurti announced. His movement is in opposition to the current Kosovo “government.”
“Vucic intends to resolve the issue before Kosovo forms its own army,” Kurti said in an interview to TV1 Bosnian channel.
As Kurti believes, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic needs it, because Serbia cannot join the EU without recognizing the Kosovo independence. Vucic sees the compromise on the Kosovo issue as a middle way that “would allow him going to Brussels and saying that Serbia can move towards EU accession without recognizing Kosovo,” Kurti specified.
I do not think that they will let him do so, because the people of Kosovo, opposition in Kosovo, despite readiness if our president to make concessions to Vucic, will not allow it. We have a large experience, we cannot let Bosnia repeat itself in Kosovo and make it a state where survival is seen as success,” Albin Kurti continued.
He said that the international community must be explained that one should not let Serbia form a “small Serbian republic” in Kosovo “that would not stop at the Kosovo north only.”
He said he finds necessary to establish a Balkan union of Bosniaks, Albanians, and, why not, Montenegrins, Macedonians and Croats, because Serbia will remain a problem in the Balkans not only in this century, but in next centuries as well,” Kurti said.
As EADaily reported earlier, Belgrade and Pristina are having a dialog on normalization of the relations with the EU mediation. Belgrade insists on fulfilling provisions of the Brussels Agreement signed in 2013, according to which Kosovo Serbs living on the north are to unite into a Community of Serb Municipalities. Five years have come from the signing, Pristina has failed to fulfil this provision.
After The director of the Serbian Government Office for Kosovo and Metohija Marko Djuric was abducted and then deported from Kosovo, the Serb List party left the separatist government led by Ramush Haradinaj and declared their intention to establish the Community of Serb Municipalities on their own. Hashim Thaci said that the community will be formed under “Kosovo legislation.”
