The Defense Ministry of the non-recognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) has published one more video picturing the movement of Azerbaijani troops along the contact line in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone. This is not the first video showing that Azerbaijan may use the mass protests in Armenia as an opportunity to organize provocations and even large-scale combat actions in Nagorno-Karabakh.
“After the so-called velvet revolution in Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan and its other leaders must appropriately react to the reports by the NKR Defense Ministry and must realize that a new wave of tension inside the Armenian society may pose a threat to the security of Artsakh and Armenia, to the territorial integrity and the very existence of the Armenian nation,” says the source.
Before Serzh Sargsyan’s resignation, the leaders of the protests could say that the videos were just a special technology, the regime’s attempt to distract the protesters’ attention, but now that Sargsyan has resigned, they must not ignore the challenges coming from the Azerbaijani side. As a responsible politician and the leader of the “velvet revolution,” Pashinyan must make a statement and must make it clear how Armenia should react if the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh resume. He must also urge the society to unite for the sake of the security of the Armenian nation and the defense of the borders of Armenia and Artsakh (Armenian historical name of Nagorno-Karabakh - EADaily).
In view to the real threat coming from the enemy, national mobilization must be one of the priorities of the leaders of the protest movement. They must not ignore the intelligence information coming from the Defense Army of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic – as now that the Armenian government has resigned, it would no longer be logical for anybody to spread fake videos just to scare the Armenian society with a possible war in Nagorno-Karabakh.
The agenda of the talks between Nikol Pashinyan and Karen Karapetyan (acting prime minister of Armenia - EADaily), if they take place, should include the current situation in Nagorno-Karabakh and the idea that Armenia must refrain from anarchy and internal conflicts now that it is facing the real threat of a new war in Nagorno-Karabakh. The security of Artsakh and the physical existence of the Armenian nation must be a priority and must not become hostage to any internal political problems.
We have no right to focus on change of power now that a real threat is hanging over Artsakh. Both the leaders of the protest movement and the authorities of Armenia must appear with a clear position on this matter, with specific and clear messages that would cater for the interests of the whole nation, says Verelq.
