Lavrov tells about plans to supply S-300 missile systems to Syria

Russia stands ready to consider any help to the Syrian to army deter aggression, Foreign Minister of Russia Sergey Lavrov said in response to BBC HardTalk correspondent’s question about possible supplies of S-300 missile systems to the Bashar al-Assad government.

“A few years ago, at the request of our partners we decided not supply S-300 to Syria. Now that this outrageous act of aggression was undertaken by the US, France and UK, we might think how to make sure that the Syrian state is protected,” Lavrov said.

EADaily reported earlier that supplies of S-300 surface-to-air missile systems to Syria following missile attacks of U.S., UK and France on Syria may be launched soon. Some military experts believe the supplies are already underway.

On April 14, Sergey Rudskoy, Chief of the Main Operational Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, said that a few years ago, the Russians respected the request of their western partners not to supply Syria with S-300 systems. “Today we consider it possible to come back to this issue and not only with respect to Syria,” Rudskoy warned.

To recap, on April 14 night, the Syrian air defense forces intercepted 71 out of the 103 missiles launched on Syria by U.S., UK and France.
