Russian special services have taken control over situation in Kerch Strait waters and airspace over it to prevent potential provocations by Islamists, Ukrainian special services and nationalists. The statement came from Alexander Bortnikov, Head of National Anti-Terror Committee, and Director of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB), today on April 10.
“Manpower and resources have been prepared for coordinated actions in case of terror threats against erected facilities, including by supporters of radical ideologies, special services and nationalist organization of Ukraine that nourish an idea of sabotage attacks on Crimea peninsula,” Bortnikov said addressing National Anti-Terror Committee.
At present, taking into account the forthcoming opening of motor traffic along the Crimea Bridge, it is necessary to ensure transport security of the passage. “Transport infrastructure security-related regulatory framework needs improvement to create conditions to prevent unauthorized access to waters adjacent to the facilities,” Bortnikov said.
He outlined such prior areas of works as protection of facilities that are potential targets, including Crimea Bridge, as well as professional training of officials involved in terrorism prevention.
As EADaily reported earlier, on April 7, Ukrainian nationalists from OUN Volunteer Movement organization that is banned in Russia announced terror attacks timed to opening of the Crimea Bridge. Head of the radicals Nikolai Kokhanovsky threatened with more attacks on Russian consulates and certain actions in Kiev and Lvov.
Motor traffic along Crimea Bridge is set for May 9.
