Leader of political union of Serbs of Kosovo and Metohija, civic initiative Freedom, Democracy, Justice, Oliver Ivanović was assassinated early in the morning on January 16 when entering the building where his party office is located. President of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić called the assassination a terror attack and demanded finding the perpetrators immediately. “President” of separatist Kosovo Hashim Thaçi condemned the Serbian politician’s murder and called on citizens of Kosovo for help in investigation of that high–profile murder.
The murder sparked huge public outcry in Serbia. Milica Jurjevic, a member of Zavetnici Party expressed her views of the incident to EADaily.
Kosovo Albanians never act independently, at their own risk. Today in the morning, the target was in Mitrovica, but the trigger was in the hands of their foreign patrons. I am sure that behind this terrorist act there was an attempt to establish in Northern Kosovo a full power of separatist institutions and those who give orders to them.
Recall that a few days ago, the U.S. Department of State urged its citizens to avoid travelling to Kosovo and Metohija for potential terror attacks. They warned against possible outbreak of politically-motivated violence and inter-ethnic clashes in the north of Kosovo and Metohija.
How could the Department of State know about political showdown in the north of Kosovo? All the indications are that Washington and Pristina tried to use the fifth column in Serbia to accuse the Serbian side of Ivanovic’s assassination and present the north of Kosovo and Metohija as a field of infighting in order to cement its control over it.
Oliver Ivanović’s assassination proves what I have been warning against for several years already – no dialogue is possible with terrorists, as they do not want to talk, they want to cleanse Kosovo ethnically, so that no trace of Serbian historical heritage is left there.
The government’s policy of concessions just encouraged Albanians to make more claims. Kosovo has become small for them. Chairman of the so-called parliament of Kosovo Kadri Veseli threatens that Albanians will reach Niš. They do it to kindle fear and panic among Serbian people. The assassination of Ivanović proves that there will be no peace unless the Serbian state takes a hardline, state-forming stance to resist the Greater Albanian separatism and terrorism.
We believe that it is high time to act and stop cherishing illusions that we can protect our people in Kosovo and Metohija through talks in Brussels. We can do it only if the entire government machinery involves in the fight for preservation of sovereignty and rights of Serbs in the southern Serbian Krajina. Therefore, I think that Serbia should not return to the talks in Brussels where it has step by step refused from its statehood in the territory of Kosovo and Metohija.
We have urged the leadership of Serbia to request extraordinary meeting of UN Security Council to inform the world community of the terrorism in Kosovo and Metohija that threatens the entire region and Europe.
We should not allow Oliver Ivanović to be another victim of the unpunished crimes against the Serbian people of Kosovo and Metohija.
