Moldova getting ready for forceful scenario for Transnistria

Transnistrian President Vadim Krasnoselsky believes that deployment of joint Moldovan-Ukrainian checkpoints on the Transnistrian border can be an initial stage ща a forceful scenario of Chisinau against Tiraspol. Krasnoselsky made the statement on Dec 21, after Palanka joint checkpoint was inaugurated. Before that, Kuchurhan-Pervomayskoye checkpoint was launched.

“There is a security area on the Dniester, it is a territory where military actions took place, but the conflict zone is wider. The first checkpoint, Kuchurhan, was deployed on the line of contact with the security area, and the second one that was inaugurated in Palanka, on the line of contact with the conflict zone,” Krasnoselsky said.

At the same time, he noted that the Palanka checkpoint is not adjacent to the territory of Transnistria and the security area, but it close to the conflict zone which cannot but cause concern. According to Krasnoselsky, “the checkpoints on the border is a beginning of the forceful scenario of Chisinau against Transnistria.”

“The matter is about economic smothering of the region, and this is a consolidated decision of the Moldovan authorities in general. Moldova’s President Igor Dodon supported the idea of joint Moldovan-Ukrainian checkpoints too. Although, a meeting of the Permanent Conference for Political Questions a decision was made: everything concerning Transnistria must be discussed at the negotiation table in the presence of representatives from Tiraspol. But nobody discussed anything with us,” the Transnistrian leader concluded.

EADaily reported earlier that the joint checkpoints of Chisinau and Kiev are established with financial support of the European Union and the UN Development Program in the Republic of Moldova.

On Oct 6, the prime ministers of Moldova and Ukraine signed a roadmap for the border cooperation. The roadmap envisages the project will be developed in 2018.

The Transnistrian side repeatedly stressed that such unilateral actions can cause substantial damage to the economy of the republic. Tiraspol called to discuss the issue in the format of the 5+2 Permanent Conference, where apart from the conflicting parties Russia, Ukraine and the OSCE are guarantors and mediators, while the USA and EU are observers.
