Krasnoselsky: “Transnistria’s independence – security guarantee”

Transnistria will never forget the tragic events of 1992. President of the unrecognized republic Vadim Krasnoselsky said at a rally timed to the 25th anniversary of the launch of Moldova’s armed aggression.

“Twenty-five years ago on this very day, March 2, Moldova joined UN. Was it a coincidence that Moldova was admitted to UN and military actions in the territory of the country were launched on the same day? We will always remember the tragic events of those years,” Krasnoselsky said.

Those present at the meeting said that at similar events in Chisinau the participants in the military actions on the side of Moldova are called as combatants, democracy fighters.

“Killing your own people is a very odd fight for democracy. We do not need such democracy.” Krasnoselsky said.

In his words, rhetoric of some Moldovan politicians contains calls for undermining the “5+2” format of talks (Chisinau and Tiraspol are conflicting sides, Russia, Ukraine and OSCE are mediators, while U.S. and EU are observers) and imposing total blockade of Transnistria through establishment of posts in the territory of Ukraine.

I welcome the messages of Moldova President Igor Dodon to settle our economic and humanitarian problems. We seek a concession, indeed, but we are in a very complicated situation, as there are many one-sided actions and very tough talk by other politicians. The situation is very sensitive,” the Transnistrian leader said.

They in Tiraspol are sure that the only security guarantee of the region is Transnistria’s independence.

“Let Moldova figure out what it wants for its people, let alone its neighbors. As for us, we want peace. We want the military history to end and peace and welfare to come to our land,” the president said for conclusion.

As EADaily reported earlier, Moldova Prime Minister Pavel Filip and his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Groysman and President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko met in Kiev on February 13 and agreed to establish joint control of the Transnistrian section of the state border.

The Transnistrian Foreign Ministry called those actions another element of blockade and economic pressure.

In this light, speaking at a briefing on March 1, President of Moldova Igor Dodon said he will “initiate a social dialogue platform to achieve reconciliation and agreement between the two banks of Dniester River.” “All of us are the people of the Moldovan Republic.” It is time to turn the current page in history of our country and stop living with the past.” Dodon said.
