Ukraine’s Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk has once again refused to resign and is waiting for President Poroshenko’s proposals on how to overcome the current crisis in the country.
“I hope that very soon the political crisis in Ukraine will be settled. I have mentioned two scenarios. I will accept either of them. So, now I am waiting for the coalition’s and the president’s decisions,” Yatsenyuk said.
On Mar 9, he said that the best way to overcome the government crisis in Ukraine was to resume the activities of the parliamentary coalition. The second scenario is if the president and the coalition form a new Cabinet and present a new program to their people. The third scenario is the worst – mid-term elections.
In the meantime, Ukrainian mass media report that Yatsenyuk will have to resign in the next few days. The leader of the Bloc of Petro Poroshenko parliamentary group Yuri Lutsenko said on Mar 21 that Yatsenyuk will not stay in his office for the third year.
As EADaily reported earlier, the political crisis in Ukraine was caused by the failure of the Supreme Rada to approve a resolution expressing non-confidence in Yatsenyuk’s Cabinet. Now the Ukrainian MPs are no longer able to discuss this issue.
The sides are currently discussing ways to reformat the coalition and the Cabinet. Among Yatsenyuk’s possible successors are Finance Minister Natalie Jaresko and Speaker of the Supreme Rada Volodymyr Groysman.
On Mar 17, President Poroshenko said that the crisis will be settled by the end of March.
