Ukrenergo halts power supply to Crimea

The Russian Energy Ministry has convened extraordinarily after Ukrenergo halted power supplies to Crimea.  The ministry told EADaily the socially significant facilities and high-security objects will be provided with diesel-driven generators and the mobile gas-turbine power plants in the Crimean Federal District will be supplied fuel.

Andrey Cherezov, Deputy Minister of Energy of Russia has charged the response personnel and the mobile and emergency response and restoration teams to work 24-hour a day.

National Power Company Ukrenergo has notified about reduction of the net power supply to Crime to 0 MW starting midnight, July 1, the Energy Ministry of Russia said.

The Energy Expert Centre says Crimea will remain dependent on Ukraine’s power supplies by almost 80%. There are four TPPs with a capacity of about 140MW in Crimea. There are alternative energy generating facilities, such as solar and wind power plants with a total capacity of about 400MW. Yet, Crimeans pin hopes with operative construction of a power bridge between Krasnodar Krai and Crimea.
