Former Deputy Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation Timur Ivanov intends to continue the trial in order to conclude a contract and go to the SMO zone, lawyer Denis Baluyev said.

"Ivanov is still ready to sign a contract with the Ministry of Defense and go to the combat zone in any military position that will be assigned to him, up to and including participation in an assault unit," TASS quoted Baluyev as saying.

According to the lawyer, Ivanov's defense does not consider it necessary to re-apply to the department with similar requests and plans to appeal court decisions to higher authorities.

Ivanov has served as Deputy Minister of Defense of Russia since May 2016. He was detained on April 23, 2024 and charged with taking a bribe on an especially large scale. According to investigators, Ivanov colluded with the heads of contracting companies that performed work for the Ministry of Defense, and facilitated the conclusion of lucrative contracts, receiving remuneration for it. The court sentenced Ivanov to 13 years of imprisonment in a penal colony and imposed a fine of 100 million rubles.
