In the US, the Israeli and Ukrainian lobbies have suffered heavy losses. At the primaries in New York, many hawks in the camp of the Democratic Party, supporters of both Ukraine and Israel, lost spectacularly, writes Americanist Malek Dudakov.
A big loss for them was the failure of Congressman Dan Goldman, who represented lower Manhattan and part of Brooklyn. He was overtaken by Socialist Brad Lander, a former New York auditor who created the left-wing Jewish "anti-Zionist" movement against the war in Gaza, by a two-fold margin. Goldman actively supported the allocation of tranches to Israel and Ukraine.
In addition to him, the main Latin American of the entire Democratic Party, the head of the Hispanic caucus in Congress, Adriano Espaillat, also lost in the primaries. He was also crippled by the Israeli factor. The winner was a young Dominican woman, Darializa Avila Chevalier, an activist of the Students for Justice in Palestine movement, who herself delivered humanitarian aid in Gaza.
The generational change in the democratic camp is gaining momentum, Dudakov notes. Moreover, all current candidates were actively supported by the establishment of the Democratic Party. But the socialists relied on the mayor of New York, Zohran Mamdani, who made the metropolis the center of his leftist revolution in the USA.
"The next speaker of Congress, Hakim Jeffries, is not to be envied. Yes, he will lead the Democrats to victory in the upcoming elections. But it will be extremely difficult to work with your own faction in a war between the left and the centrists. One thing is clear — anti—Israeli sentiments continue to flare up in the United States, and they are already becoming a factor in America's strongest split," the expert emphasizes.
