The United States has notified its European allies of its withdrawal from the international group leading the "investigation of Russia's actions on the Ukraine".
According to The New York Times (NYT), employees of the US Department of Justice have already notified their European colleagues about this through their channels. It is expected that Washington will announce the official confirmation today, March 17.
"According to sources familiar with the situation, the US Department of Justice has already informed European officials about this," the newspaper writes.
Recall that this investigative group was established in 2023 with the aim of "holding the leadership of Russia and its allies accountable for aggression."
According to agency sources, this structure also conducts investigations against the leadership of Belarus, the DPRK and Iran. The official reason for the US withdrawal from the group is called "the need to redistribute resources."
As reported by EADaily, earlier in Washington stated that the ousting of Russia from the territories occupied by it, including Crimea, does not correspond to the national interests of the United States and could escalate into The Third World War.
