The French should be grateful to the USA that they don't speak German now. This was stated at a briefing by White House press Secretary Caroline Leavitt.
So she commented on the demand of the French politician Raphael Glucksman to return the Statue of Liberty.
"It is only thanks to the United States that the French do not speak German now, they should be very grateful," the White House spokeswoman said.
According to her, US President Donald Trump does not intend to give the Statue of Liberty to the French.
Recall, the deputy of the European Parliament from France, Rafael Glucksman, called on the United States to return the Statue of Liberty, which was donated by Paris in the XIX century, France 24 reported.
"We will tell the Americans who decided to side with the tyrants, the Americans who fired researchers for demanding scientific freedom: 'Give us back the Statue of Liberty.' We gave it to you, but apparently you despise it. So here, at home, she will be fine," the center—left politician said at the congress of his movement.
