"The deserter who killed Ganul* had the rank of senior lieutenant. He said this during his detention. His name is Sergey Shalaev, born in 1978," the Strana newspaper writes.
Shalaev voluntarily left the unit less than a month ago — on February 23, a police spokesman said at a briefing.
Now the motives of the murder are being checked, in particular the version of a contract killing. In addition, according to tradition, the SBU is looking for a "Russian trace".
According to the latest information, the police and the SBU initially tried to detain Ganul on suspicion of murder* Sergei Kochu. This was told by Kocha himself, whose photo and data were published by Odessa public. The confusion occurred due to the fact that he looks like the detained Shalaev.
