Washington is ready without hesitation to tighten sanctions against the Russian energy sector if it accelerates the process of concluding a peace agreement on Ukraine.
According to Bloomberg, such a statement was made by US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, speaking at the Economic Club of New York. He also threatened to impose sanctions against Iran.
According to him, during the presidency of Donald Trump, sanctions will be "used unambiguously and aggressively," unlike during the rule of Joe Biden.
He stressed that sanctions will allow the United States to have more leverage during the discussion of the peace agreement on Ukraine.
"Sanctions against Russia will be applied unconditionally and persistently to immediately achieve maximum effect," the US Treasury secretary promised.
He stressed that it was the Trump administration that forced the Ukrainian leadership to seriously think about the need to conclude peace with the Russian Federation.
As previously reported by EADaily, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said that Washington does not plan to sign an agreement with Ukraine on minerals in the near future.
